Q:
I have lost my BionX Manual. Where can I get another?
A:

Q:
I’ve lost a part off my BionX system, can I get a replacement?
A:
Yes, a range of spare parts is available from spare bolts, rims, consoles to batteries.
Search on this website, to see what is available in the UK & Republic of Ireland.
Q:
Will my BionX system work in the rain?
A:
Yes. All parts of the BionX system are water resistant, but it is recommended that you dry
your console with a soft dry cloth at the earliest opportunity. Direct water hosing of the
battery and connecting cables should be avoided when cleaning and the bike should be
stored in a dry environment to prevent any moisture from building up on contact points.
Q:
How do I look after the battery connections?
A:
When your BionX battery is not on your bike please make sure the battery connection
located on the bicycle frame is well protected from dust and water. If you notice any sign of corrosion, simply clean with a soft brush.
Q:
Do I need to adjust the spoke tension?
A:
We recommend that you visit your bike dealer to inspect the spokes tension after 2 to 3 weeks of use (and/or 300 km / 200 miles).
Q:
Does the motor require any maintenance?
A:
The BionX motor does not require any maintenance. The motor is made of permanent magnets (brushless).
Q:
How should I store my battery when not in use?
A:
It is advisable to always store your battery fully charged in a cool, dry place if not used for long periods. During winter months it is advised that the battery be stored in a warm place before use, i.e. if your bike is kept in a cold garage, take the battery off the bike and store it in the house. When you use your bike the next day the battery will be warm and any damage from using the battery cold will be avoided.
Q:
How do I store my battery long term?
A:
- Store in a 5°C to 25°C area (the most preferable storage temperature is 20°C)
- Avoid a long period of storage when temperature reaches 45°C or higher
- Do not store a battery pack where atmosphere temperature reaches -20°C or below
- Avoid direct exposure to sun rays and heat when storing a battery pack (battery cells) in a
- warehouse
- Do not store a battery pack where atmosphere temperature reaches 45°C or higher
- Store in a dry area with low humidity
- Keep away from extreme temperature changes
- Prevent a battery pack from having dew condensation (to prevent rust)
- Never leave a battery uncharged.
- Return to the battery every 2 or 3 months and check the battery is still fully charged. If
- possible use the battery until its flat, fully charge it and store it again. Repeat process every 2
- to 3 months.
Q:
How do I charge my battery?
A:
It is recommended to always charge your battery after a ride (if level of charge is less than a half). Recharge at ambient temperature. Avoid warm locations. You can either remove the battery or connect the battery directly on your bicycle. Then plug the battery pack cord into a standard wall outlet (240 Volts). A fully discharged battery can be recharged in approximately 3 to 4 hours. Always turn off your system before plugging the charger or before removing the battery to recharge. Never turn on/off the system while the battery is charging. Let the battery get back to room temperature (20°C) before recharging it.
NOTE:Since the battery does not have a memory, it is not necessary to completely discharge the battery before charging it again.
Q:
How far will one charge of the battery take me?
A:
Distances will vary depending on the BionX model purchased, road conditions, riding surface, cyclist's weight and the assistance level used. The ride distance can also be extended if the regenerative braking mode is utilised.
Q:
What checks should I do before a ride?
A:
Make sure the connections are all adequately plugged in. Look for a full battery charge level on your LCD command console. If this is not the case, charge the battery. Always make sure your battery is well fastened to the frame and locked.
Q:
What do I do if I get a rear flat tyre?
A:
Simply disconnect both connectors that are covered with a neoprene cover near the rear wheel. You can remove the BionX wheel like any conventional wheel. In case of problem, please see your retailer.
WARNING: Before plugging or unplugging the motor, double-check that your system is turned OFF (digital console is off).
Q:
How do I get the best out of my BionX system?
A:
Use the assistance levels according to your needs. Always remember that your BionX is still a bicycle and should be used as such. Look for opportunities to use the recharge modes. If you are going downhill or riding with a tail wind, it is sensible to put the bike in recharge mode by pressing the G-button or by braking.
Q:
Can I manipulate the speed limit?
A:
No. Manipulating the speed limit will mean that the bike is no longer considered as a pedelec. The bike will not be licensed and you would risk riding without insurance. The
speed limit of the BionX system is therefore limited to 25kmh / 15mph.
Q:
What is the lifespan of a battery?
A:
The life span of the battery is 800 - 1000 charging cycles. This depends on use, environmental influences, temperature etc. The battery will loose capacity (60 - 80%) over time.
Q:
What is the warranty of the BionX system?
A:
The system components are guaranteed for two (2) years against all manufacturing defaults, except for the battery which is guaranteed one (1) year. Owners should return to the retailer they purchased their system from with all warranty enquiries, taking some proof of purchase(receipt).
